How we began...In 2008, the founder, Kathleen Mansfield, set up the company originally to perform Juno in Juno and the Paycock, having been inspired many years earlier by Judi Dench in the role. She had imagined someone asking her to play it randomly, then, on the early death of her brother, realised nobody even knew it was one of her wishes and decided to make it happen herself. Life is short! Odd Productions has become a community theatre group that tours culturally relevant and challenging theatre productions in the Scottish Borders and beyond. It offers the opportunity for quality theatre experiences to gifted actors and local playwrights for the benefit of entertaining others. In addition to Juno and the Paycock, Kathleen produced and directed The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Two by Jim Cartwright, also brought to Edinburgh, and Borders Banter, showcasing two new plays by Borders writers, Oliver Eade and Dorothy Bruce. Additionally, the company has worked with The National Theatre on the prestigious ‘Connections’ youth project, performing Frank & Ferdinand, Journey to X and The Edelweiss Pirates.
